IMAGEEvery level of business is faced with a multitude of requirements for the safe backup and restoration of their data. The move towards disk based data protection solutions has allowed organizations improve data protection performance, reliability, disaster recovery capabilities, decrease backup windows, increase flexibility, and provide improved levels of efficiency. Simple disk based data protection using disk Storage Units are quickly evolving, and allowing clients to expand into unique protection capabilities when combined with existing software technologies such as volume management and replication.  The value of these new and enhanced capabilities provide real benefit providing powerful solutions to meet the challenges that IT professionals face today.

IceWEB’s unique ability to use a modular approaches in our designs allows our clients to quickly incorporate a disk based vaulting, Disk to Tape (D2T),and Disk Disk-to-disk (D2D) strategy into their Business continuance and Disaster Recovery plans.  Using disks in a backup strategy has quickly changed from a “nice to have’ to a requirement in all enterprise environments due to its speed, reliability, and superior restoration capabilities.  IceWEB storage solutions when incorporated into a disk based solution provide the following features and benefits:

  1. Integration with backup software from leading vendors to allow the user to get optimal value from these solutions

Disk-to-disk (D2D) backup has become the preferred method due to its speed and reliability. When the total cost of operating a D2D system is compared to the hidden costs of a standard tape-based backup system, the return on investment is typically less than twelve months.

Most traditional tape-based backup providers have converted to a VTL D2D system because it was the easiest since they didn't have to change their tape-formatted files.  While faster than actual tape, VTL systems are still strapped with the limitations of tape, including sequential access and reliance on a tape header to keep data intact.
